Making My Mama Proud(苦瓜炒蛋)

20140630-224059-81659147.jpgMy mama can’t make me cook. The reason, I am not so fussy with food. I eat what’s on the table and served to me. She tried teaching me but I’d rather draw than endure the heat from the flame of the stove. Wait a minute!!! I remembered the food me and my siblings hated when we were young… Bitter gourd dish… My parents had their creative way of preparing it. Here I am now, mama… I am cooking bitter gourd with egg… This time, my version. Locally we called it ampalaya and to lessen its bitterness my mama would add eggs and lots of salt. Mama said to sing or whistle while cooking to take the bitter taste away… Folk tales 😉 lol
MY VERSION OF BITTER GOURD WITH EGG DISH (苦瓜炒蛋)

Ingredients:

2 cloves of garlic
One small bitter gourd, sliced
Cooking oil
1/4 cup of water
Salt
One egg, beaten
Minced meat

Steps:
1. Fry the garlic with the minced meat in a medium fire for a minute

2. Add the sliced bitter gourd and mix. Cover the pan for 2 – 3 mins.
3. Remove the lid. Put water and salt. Add the sliced tomato. Then, stir and leave it for one minute.

4. Lastly, add the egg. Turn off the fire. Mix the egg well, it will cook with the residual heat of the flame.
Finally, ready for my lunch tomorrow!!! I hope I did well and let my mama try it. For sure, I will make her proud

Budget:
Egg-0.17; Bitter gourd- 0.20; Minced meat – 0.40
Total: $0.77 (So cheap but healthy)

Tasty!!! Yes, I made it!!! I did sing while cooking… But, I love ampalaya when it’s bitter!!!
